GROVE GMK 6400 is a very new model in the production line. It was shown to public in BAUMA 2010 together with GROVE GMK 6300-L for the very first time. These two cranes have new design of drivers cab, which might be used on all future 5 and more axles GROVE mobile cranes models.
GROVE GMK 6400 is the most powerful 6 axle crane on the recent market. It also offers new design solutions on chassis and superstructure as well.
The main innovation on chassis is a hydrostatic power on axles 4 & 5, GROVE designed MegaDriveTM. This hydrostatic drive propels the crane from 0 to about 20 km/h and then a conventional drive on axles 1 and 2 takes the crane move through ZF automatic gearbox. The hydro move is pretty smooth. There was quite long testing period of this system on a testing GMK 4080 done. The result wor very positive and the system was accepted for serial production then.
Newly designed boom with strength optimal O shape MEGAFORMTM consists of 5 telescopic sections. It is 60 meters long and it can be extended by a 79 m luffing jib. The very strong load chart can be even strengthened when MegaWingLiftTM is used. The MegaWingLiftTM attachment is self rigging. No another crane is needed to place the MegaWingLiftTM to the crane chassis.
Quite interesting is that this crane is powered by one engine only. Designers have chosen Mercedes-Benz OM502LA, which complies with Tier 4i, stage Euromot IIIb and from 2011 with the EURO V as well.

15,4 m to 60,0 m five section MEGAFORM boom with TWIN-LOCKTM pinning. Elevated by 1 cylinder with safety valves, boom angle from -1,5° to +82°.

Lift enhancing system to improve load charts. The self-rigging MegaWingLift™ can be installed without the help of an auxiliary crane.
All aluminum constructed cab with acoustical lining, hydraulic tilted to 20°. Includes tinted safety glass, adjustable operator’s seat, opening windows at side and rear, hinged windshield with wiper, sun visor and window shade. Other features include hot water heater/defroster, armrest integrated crane controls, ergonomically arranged instrumentation and radio/CD player, air conditioning, working range limiter.

Load moment and anti-two block system
GROVE EKS 5 - system with audio/visual warning and control lever lockout provides electronic display of boom angle, length, radius, tip height, relative load moment, maximum permissible load, load indication and warning of impending two-block condition.

Special 6-axle chassis, all-welded torsion-resistant box type construction is fabricated from high strength steel.
4 double hydraulically telescoping beams with vertical cylinders and outrigger pads. Independent horizontal and vertical movement control on each side of the carrier. Font outriggers with hydraulic disconnection, removable rear outrigger box.

Hybrid drive system with axles 4 and 5 hydrostatically driven. Axles disconnect at speeds greater than 25 km/h (16 mph) and connect at speeds below 20 km/h (12 mph).

12 tires with standard size 14.00 R25. As an option can be chosen size 16.00R25 or 20.50R25. The tires can be mounted on steel or aluminium rims.
